Tiaty MP William Kamket and Data Commissioner Immaculate Kassait have lost their 13-year-old son, Bill Junior Ballot.

The news was confirmed by United Democratic Alliance digital strategist Antonellah Kakuko, who also conveyed her condolences to Kenya’s first Data Commissioner, Immaculate Kassait.

President William Ruto also expressed his condolences to the MP and his family, describing the loss as deeply painful and noting that the young boy had a bright future ahead of him.

“We extend our sincere condolences to Tiaty Member of Parliament Hon. William Kamket and his family following the loss of their beloved son, Bill Ballot Kassait Jnr.

It is deeply painful to lose a young life filled with promise and potential. We stand with you and support you during this difficult time.”

Kamket is well known for his outspoken nature, especially on matters concerning banditry. He has been vocal in defending the Pokot community amid recurring clashes between pastoralist groups.

He joined politics in 2013 when he was first elected Speaker of the Baringo County Assembly, a position he held until 2017. In the 2017 General Election, he successfully vied for the Tiaty parliamentary seat, winning his first term as MP.

He was re-elected in the 2022 General Election on a KANU ticket under the Azimio la Umoja coalition, led by former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

During the 2024 Gen Z protests in Kenya, Kamket was a vocal critic of the youth-led movement, taking a firm stance in support of President William Ruto’s administration.

“I will sponsor 200 bandits to go to Nairobi to deal with Gen Z on June 25. These young people are so entitled, thinking they are the only ones who have issues. Any attempt to occupy State House will be met with heavy resistance.”

Immaculate Kassait, the MP’s wife, is Kenya’s first Data Commissioner. She has 12 years of experience in the public sector managing complex projects in governance, training, compliance and strategy. She has also been an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya for 14 years.
