JOS — The Plateau State Police Command has arrested 27 suspects in an intelligence-led operation targeting criminal flashpoints across the state.
The suspects were apprehended late Tuesday night in Alheri, Apata, Busa-Buji, and Angwan Suya areas at about 11:05 p.m., according to the command’s spokesperson, Alfred Alabo.
He said police operatives recovered substances suspected to be Indian hemp from the suspects during the coordinated raids.
Alabo explained that the operation was aimed at restoring normalcy and preventing criminal elements from exploiting the prevailing security situation to foment unrest.
The Commissioner of Police, Bassey Ewah, described the raids as part of proactive measures to sustain law and order across the state.
He warned individuals or groups planning to cause trouble to desist, assuring that the command would deal decisively with offenders.
Ewah added that profiling of the suspects is ongoing, while investigations will determine their involvement in criminal activities and ensure prosecution where culpability is established.
To strengthen security, the command said operational and intelligence personnel have been deployed to strategic locations across the state to enhance police presence and reassure residents.
The police also urged members of the public to support security efforts by providing timely and credible information to law enforcement agencies.
