Former President Uhuru Kenyatta has turned down a request for a youth meeting at his Ichaweri residence in Gatundu, citing a lack of prior formal communication.
In a statement released on Sunday, February 22, 2026, the Office of the 4th President addressed reports of a planned visit by a group of young people, saying that the timing of the unscheduled visit was not feasible.
“The former President deeply respects the energy, ideas, and patriotism of Kenya’s youth. He firmly believes that dialogue between generations is essential for shaping the future of our nation, and he welcomes opportunities for constructive engagement. However, we wish to clarify that President (Rtd) Kenyatta is currently not in a position to host the said group,” stated Kanze Dena Mararo, the Secretary of Communication for the former president.
The office further urged organisers of such initiatives to reach out formally in the future to allow for structured, peaceful, and meaningful dialogue, emphasising that Kenyatta is open to exchanging views in a dignified manner, provided that such engagements are properly coordinated to avoid disruption.

The planned visit follows a letter dated February 16, 2026, from a group of young Kenyans who described their intended trip to Ichaweri as a “courtesy call.”
The group sought to recognise the former president for his perceived role in championing youth inclusion in national leadership.
This scheduled visit had gained significant traction on social media under the banner of what they termed a political awakening.
However, the Jubilee Party had earlier dismissed similar reports as unauthorised, maintaining that any official engagement involving the former president must be channelled through his verified office to ensure security and order at the private residence.
“We wish to remind all our officials, members, and the general public that any formal communication regarding the Party Leader is issued exclusively through the verified Office of the 4th President of the Republic of Kenya and the official Jubilee Party platforms,” the party asserted.
