ABUJA- THE Movement for Credible Elections, MCE, a coalition of leaders of organised civil society and labour movement, has said it would protest over electoral reforms at the National Assembly today.
The protest will also feature such personalities as human rights lawyer, Femi Falana, SAN; Dr. Olisa Agbakoba, SAN; Prof Pat Utomi; Dr. Usman Bugaje; NLC President, Joe Ajaero; former NLC President, Ayuba Wabba; Ambassador Nkoyo Toyo, and Senator Shehu Sani, among others.
They are billed to address a media rally in support of the protest.
In a statement signed yesterday in Abuja by MCE Media Coordinator, Comrade James Ezema, the coalition explained that the action was aimed at intensifying civic pressure on the legislature to adopt comprehensive popular electoral reforms as demanded by Nigerians and outlined in MCE’s public petition submitted to the National Assembly last month.
According to the statement, Head of MCE national secretariat, veteran political activist, Comrade Olawale Okunniyi, stated that the media rally represented a continuation of peaceful democratic engagement to ensure that electoral laws reflected the genuine will of the Nigerian people, ahead of the 2027 general elections.
He emphasised that credible elections remained fundamental to strengthening democracy, promoting political accountability and restoring public confidence in governance.
He added that MCE and its partners would sustain nationwide mass mobilisation until meaningful electoral reforms were achieved.
Also expected to address the media rally are Dr. Oby Ezekwesili; Prince Adewole Adebayo; Hadjia Bilikisu Magoro; Comrade Ene Obi; Alhaji Shettima Yerima; Prof Chidi Odinkalu; Comrade Promise Adewusi; Engr Bala Zakka; Dr. Sam Amadi; Comrade Malachy Ugwummadu; and Peter Randy Akah, among other leaders
MCE reiterates its commitment to peaceful civic mass activism and called on Nigerians to support efforts at securing credible and transparent elections in 2027.
