“Sifuna usilale!” chants rocked Kitengela on Saturday as a mammoth crowd turned up for the Linda Mwananchi tour led by Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna, Siaya Governor James Orengo and Embakasi East MP Babu Owino.
The embattled ODM Secretary General was received by hundreds of supporters who had gathered hours before the team’s arrival, in videos seen by TNX Africa.
Rising to address the charged crowd, Sifuna slipped into his signature call-and-response style.
“Mnanijua? Mimi ni nani?” he posed.

“Sifuna!” the crowd roared back.
He went on to reaffirm his position as Secretary General of the Orange Democratic Movement, insisting his removal was unlawful.
“Walisema sisi ndio wachache, leo tutawahesabia wajue sisi ndio wengi,” he said, in reference to the Oburu-led faction within the party.
The rally was, however, briefly thrown into disarray after teargas was lobbed into the crowd, forcing supporters to scamper for safety.

It was not immediately clear who was behind the disruption.
Recently, ODM has been grappling with a leadership crisis following Sifuna’s dramatic removal during a National Executive Committee meeting held in Mombasa on February 11, 2026.
The meeting, chaired by party leader Oburu Oginga, cited escalating cases of indiscipline and leadership conduct as grounds for the ouster.
Busia Woman Representative Catherine Omanyo was, as a result, appointed acting Secretary General.
Sifuna’s allies have described the move as a political witch hunt aimed at aligning ODM with President William Ruto’s administration.
They argue that the old guard is seeking to purge vocal critics following the death of former party leader Raila Odinga in 2025.
Sifuna has since moved to the Political Parties Disputes Tribunal, which on February 12 issued a temporary stay blocking his removal.
He maintains he was never served with a notice to show cause and insists he remains the duly elected Secretary General as the dispute heads to court.
