The National Orientation Agency (NOA) has issued a public advisory on handling snake bites, highlighting the importance of immediate and proper response to prevent serious health complications.
Snake bites remain a significant public health concern in Nigeria, and the agency urged citizens to stay calm and seek prompt medical attention at the nearest health facility.
In its advisory, NOA warned against harmful first-aid practices, including:
Applying tourniquets
Cutting or incising the wound
Using traditional remedies
The agency emphasized that these actions can worsen the injury and reduce the chances of recovery. Instead, citizens should focus on early response, keeping the victim calm, and ensuring safe transport to a hospital or clinic.
NOA also encouraged the public to watch the advisory and share the information widely to promote community safety.
“Correct information and timely action can save lives,” the agency stated. The agency disclosed this on its X platform on Monday.
