Charlton Athletic have further bolstered their defence with the signing of 22-year-old Kenyan international Collins Sichenje from Serbian Super Liga side FK Vojvodina.

Sichenje has penned a three-and-a-half-year deal with the Addicks for an undisclosed fee, becoming Charlton’s seventh signing of the January transfer window, according to the BBC.

He joins a busy intake that includes Clarke, Dylan Dy, Luke Tierney, Ben Feeney and Conor Coady.

“He’s a player we’ve been tracking for a long time and was originally budgeted to join us this summer as part of our multi-window strategy to move the club forward,” said Charlton managing director James Rodwell.

“We’re pleased the opportunity arose for him to join us earlier than expected and are grateful to the ownership for their support in enabling us to bring him to the football club at this stage,” he added.

Born in Kenya, Sichenje began his professional career with Green Commandos before moving to AFC Leopards, where his performances earned him a call-up to the national team. He has since collected eight caps with the Harambee Stars.

His European journey started with PAOK B in Greece, followed by a loan spell at Finnish side KuPS, where he gained valuable experience in UEFA Europa League and Conference League qualifiers.

Those stints helped refine his ball-playing ability and tactical awareness, preparing him for the demands of the English Championship. Sichenje now makes history as the first Kenyan player to sign for the iconic London club, who currently sit 19th in the Championship, three points above the relegation zone under head coach Nathan Jones.

“It’s a big step for my career. It’s a good opportunity to keep working, developing and helping the team,” Sichenje said. “I just need to stay humble and keep working — that’s the goal.”

At just 22, Sichenje offers both immediate defensive cover and long-term potential for Charlton Athletic.

The transfer further raises Kenya’s profile on the international stage, following in the footsteps of stars such as Michael Olunga.
