Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika has launched a scathing attack on Senate Majority Leader Aaron Cheruiyot, accusing him of inciting ethnic divisions within the cosmopolitan county.
Speaking to a charged crowd, a defiant Kihika warned outside leaders against “meddling” in Nakuru’s internal affairs, suggesting that recent political gatherings were designed to undermine her administration and the county’s social fabric.
“There are people playing games with me. Should I speak or should I not?” Kihika posed to the crowd. “Yesterday, some people came to Nakuru to poke me in the eye. Nakuru County belongs to everyone. We do not want tribalism. We are all children of one house.”
The Governor’s remarks follow a Friday meeting in Solai hosted by Senator Cheruiyot, which reportedly brought together selected Members of Parliament from across the South and Central Rift regions.
Kihika characterised these sessions as divisive “night meetings” intended to stir up trouble.
The Governor specifically called out the Kericho Senator, advising him to focus on his own jurisdiction rather than importing ethnic politics into Nakuru.
“Even if you come from Kericho, do not bring tribalism here,” she roared amid cheers before accusing, “His work is coming to Nakuru to stir trouble with tribal night meetings.”
The public outburst has sparked a heated debate online among netizens.
While some residents support her stance on protecting the county’s peace, critics have questioned her recent political posturing.
Facebook user Thomas Mutunga was among those voicing concerns, asking, “What is so special with Nakuru county? The Governor doesn’t want to see anyone from Wamuyoro, now she doesn’t want to see anyone from other counties, is she ok?”
Meanwhile, on Sen Cheruiyot’s Facebook page, he shared photos of the meeting, accompanying them with a quote from Psalms 133.
“Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!… Glad to have met with friends from across Nakuru County,” he wrote.
Senator Cheruiyot is yet to issue an response to the Governor’s allegations.
