The Acting Governor of Borno State, Umar Kadafur, has signed into law the 2026 Appropriation Bill, with a total budget size of ₦892.448 billion.
The assent ceremony took place at the Deputy Governor’s Office in Maiduguri, the state capital on Tuesday.
According to Nigeria Television Authority, the 2026 budget was designed to address the state’s most pressing needs, with strong emphasis on sectors that directly impact citizens’ welfare.
The document reflects the government’s commitment to sustainable development, improved service delivery, and post-insurgency recovery.
The budget had been passed by the Borno State House of Assembly after careful scrutiny.
The acting governor had initially presented a ₦890.33 billion budget proposal to the Assembly, with allocations cutting across ministries, departments, and agencies.
Priority was given to education, healthcare, poverty alleviation, and the rehabilitation and reintegration of internally displaced persons, the report restated.
After review, the House approved an increase of about ₦2.37 billion, bringing the total budget to ₦892.448 billion.
Speaker of the House, Abdulkarim Lawan, explained the rationale for the additional funds.
He said, “Additional funds were earmarked mainly to strengthen the health and education sectors.
“Others include the construction of a lecture theatre at the College of Nursing and improved infrastructure at the College of Health Technology, Maiduguri.”
The speaker further assured the public of the legislature’s support in implementing the budget.
He also noted, “We will continue to cooperate to ensure effective implementation of the budget and delivery of meaningful dividends of democracy to the people of Borno State.”
The 2026 Appropriation Law now provides the framework for the state government to execute its plans across key sectors, reinforcing its focus on citizen welfare and post-insurgency recovery, the agency’s report concluded.
