The gospel music fraternity has been plunged into deep mourning following the death of Joyce Wanjiru Karumba, the wife of celebrated gospel DJ Fredrick Karumba, popularly known as DJ Krowbar.
In a heartbreaking announcement shared on Monday, January 26, DJ Krowbar revealed that his wife passed away in the early hours of the morning.
The news left family, friends and fans devastated, sending shockwaves across social media as tributes, prayers and messages of support poured in from the gospel and entertainment industry.
Among the first public figures to pay tribute was renowned gospel entertainer DJ Mo, who shared a touching throwback video of himself and his wife, Size 8, spending time with DJ Krowbar and the late Joyce.
In an emotional message, DJ Mo expressed his sorrow and offered words of comfort to his longtime friend.
“So sorry for your loss, bro. My heart goes out to you during this incredibly painful time. Holding you in my thoughts and prayers. May God comfort you, give you strength and surround you with peace. Please know you are not alone; we are here for you, Karosh. Be strong. Bye-bye Karosh,” he wrote.
Filmmaker and public figure Abel Mutua also paid tribute, remembering Joyce as a woman of immense resilience and courage. “Oh no!! One of the greatest fighters I’ve ever met. Rest well, Joy,” he shared.
Comedian and content creator Celestine Ndinda posted a brief but heartfelt condolence message, writing, “Oh noo… Pole sana.”
Veteran gospel singer and television host Joyce Omondi joined many others in sending her condolences, offering love and prayers to the grieving family. “Sending you all our love @djkrowbar. I’m so sorry,” she wrote.
Joyce Wanjiru was widely admired for her quiet strength, warmth and unwavering support for her husband’s ministry and career.
Many within the gospel scene described her as a pillar behind DJ Krowbar’s success, offering steadfast encouragement away from the spotlight.

Krowbar first rose to national fame after winning the Pilsner Mfalme DJ Competition in 2008 and later secured the Groove Award for DJ of the Year in 2012.
Over his career, he has been a staple on Kenyan television, most notably as the resident DJ for KTN’s gospel show Tukuza.
Beyond the decks, Krowbar has expanded into audio engineering, having studied the craft in South Africa, and shares his expertise as a lecturer at the African Digital Media Institute (ADMI).
