Manchester United have announced that Brazilian midfielder Carlos Henrique Casimiro, widely known as Casemiro, will leave the club at the end of the 2025/26 season following the expiry of his contract.

The 33-year-old has enjoyed a successful four-year spell at Old Trafford, making 146 appearances and scoring 21 goals to date. During his time at the club, Casemiro won the Emirates FA Cup in 2024 and played a pivotal role in several major finals.

He memorably scored the opening goal in Manchester United’s 2023 Carabao Cup final victory over Newcastle United, helping the club finish third in the Premier League during his debut season. His departure will bring an end to a four-year stay that also saw United reach two FA Cup finals, lifting the trophy in 2024.

Speaking following the announcement, the Brazil international said, “I will carry Manchester United with me throughout my entire life. It is not time to say goodbye; there are many more memories to create during the next four months. We still have a lot to fight for together. My complete focus will, as always, remain on giving my everything to help our club succeed.”

Former head coach Ruben Amorim had previously suggested that Casemiro had fallen down the midfield pecking order, at one point behind Toby Collyer, who is set to join Hull City on loan. Despite this, Amorim expressed no doubts about Casemiro’s professionalism and commitment for the remainder of the season—sentiments the player echoed in his statement.

Casemiro is now free to discuss his future with potential suitors after this summer’s World Cup, where he is expected to be included in Brazil’s squad.

Meanwhile, Manchester United can move forward with their midfield recruitment plans, with Elliott Anderson, Carlos Baleba, and Adam Wharton high on the club’s shortlist. Casemiro’s departure, as the club’s highest earner, is also expected to provide significant financial flexibility.
