Former federal lawmakers from Kano State have endorsed President Bola Tinubu for a second term and the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau Jibrin, for the 2027 governorship election in the state.

The endorsement was announced on Friday in Abuja during a courtesy visit by the forum of former lawmakers to Barau.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on Friday by Barau’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ismail Mudashir.
According to the statement, the group, made up of lawmakers who served during the Second, Third and Fourth Republics, said the decision was unanimously reached after consultations among members.
Speaking on behalf of the forum, Umar Sadiq, who represented Kumbotso Federal Constituency between 1979 and 1983, said the lawmakers had resolved to mobilise support across Kano State for Tinubu’s re-election bid and Barau’s governorship ambition.
“This is the second time we are endorsing Senator Barau for the governorship of Kano State. He is a member of our forum and number one on our membership list,” Sadiq said.
He added that the forum had also endorsed Tinubu for a second term, insisting that Barau remained their sole choice for the Kano governorship seat.
“We have no other candidate. Insha Allah, Senator Barau is the next governor of Kano State. He has been working like a governor already, and his track record of performance is outstanding,” he said.
Also speaking, a former member of the House of Representatives, Idris Isah (Jollof), described Barau as a blessing to Kano State and credited him with sustaining the fortunes of the All Progressives Congress in the state.
“We are here to reaffirm our endorsement for you and for President Tinubu to contest for a second term. Senator Barau is a blessing to the people of Kano and to APC members,” Isah said.
Another former lawmaker, Faruk Lawan, who represented Bagwai/Shanono Federal Constituency for 16 years, said the group would leave no stone unturned in ensuring victory for Tinubu and Barau in 2027.
The meeting was also attended by the Chief of Staff to the APC National Chairman, Mustapha Dawaki, who is a member of the forum.
Responding, Barau thanked the former lawmakers for their support, describing them as the backbone of Kano politics.
“This is a rescue mission. Kano State is on the path of retrogression due to failure of leadership and is being run like a private enterprise,” Barau said.
He urged stakeholders to work collectively to change the state’s direction, stressing that the 2027 project was about the future of Kano rather than individual ambition.
